The New York Yankees will go back to the field on Tuesday after an off day on Monday.
They will play the New York Mets in another edition of the Subway Series.
Designated hitter/outfielder Giancarlo Stanton didn’t play in the Yanks’ last two games.
The team and the player didn’t provide many more details about Stanton’s health status.
There was a chance the slugger, who was crowned as the MVP of the All-Star Game a week ago, returned tonight.
That won’t be happening, as the Yankees decided to place the slugger on the injured list.
“A few hours before a brief two-game Subway Series begins at Citi Field, the Yankees put Giancarlo Stanton on the IL with left Achilles tendonitis. Stanton had been out of the lineup for two games, said Sunday in Baltimore he anticipated playing tonight,” the Washington Post’s Chelsea Janes tweeted.

Stanton Has Been Relatively Healthy This Year
Stanton, who has an extensive history of leg and lower-body injuries (especially in 2019 and 2020), had been relatively healthy in the last two seasons: 2021 and 2022, avoiding extended absences so far.
While his .228 batting average is not particularly good, he managed to remain productive thanks to his good eye at the plate and his impressive slugging ability.
His season slash line is at .228/.309/.498, but he also has 24 home runs and is well on his way to eclipse his career-high with the Yankees, established in 2018 with 38 round-trippers.
His career-high, however, is still far away: 59 in 2017.
The Yankees are hoping Stanton can return relatively soon.
With their bullpen currently in shambles because of injuries and unexpected under-performers, they need their hitters to step up.
