After yet another disappointing season, the Kansas City Royals decided to make some important changes, firing manager Mike Matheny and pitching coach Cal Eldred.
The Royals have begun a search for a new manager and appear to have several candidates in mind.
One such candidate is current Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough.
McCullough appears to be among the finalists for the managerial role in Kansas City and has reportedly interviewed for the job, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Kansas City finished in last place in the American League Central division at 65-97 and fell short of the postseason for the seventh straight year.

McCullough A Finalist For Royals Manager
One thing to note here is that McCullough’s father, Howard, is a scout within the Royals system and is quite well respected.
So, that could give McCullough an edge over some of the other candidates that the Royals might have in mind.
While McCullough was the first base coach with the Dodgers, he does at the very least bring some valuable coaching experience to the role.
He’s also been a part of one of baseball’s most successful teams over the last decade.
Somebody who has experience winning would be very beneficial to a young team like the Royals that hasn’t tasted the postseason in quite some time.
McCullough might be the leading candidate as of now.
The fact that his father is a well-respected voice within the organization could help him get his foot in the door and at least be considered for the role.
