Sandy Alcantara is the National League Cy Young Award winner in 2022.
The Miami Marlins young ace had a historic season, going 14-9 in 32 starts and posting a 2.28 ERA over 228.2 innings pitched.
The 27-year-old also became the first pitcher in Marlins history to win a Cy Young.
Alcantara was the unanimous choice to win the award by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
But one particular stat stands out about the young ace and why he was chosen to win the Cy Young.
During his stretch of dominance, Alcantara threw a total of six complete games, including one against his former team in the St. Louis Cardinals.

Alcantara’s Dominance
Alcantara has quickly blossomed into a star on the mound.
He was acquired by the Marlins from St. Louis in the trade that sent Marcell Ozuna to the Cardinals in December of 2017.
Cardinals fans everywhere are haunted by the trade to this day.
During his time with St. Louis, Alcantara was mostly a reliever, but transitioned into a starter’s role upon his arrival in Miami.
In just a few short years, Alcantara was the ace of the young Marlins staff, earning an All-Star nod in 2019 and another one this past season.
The 27-year-old has been exactly what the Marlins were hoping for when they first acquired him and is the reason why the Fish seemingly got the better end of the deal.
Now, the young right-hander can celebrate a major accomplishment just a few years into what has already been a fantastic career.
