With all the players placed on waivers by teams out of postseason contention, Thursday is expected to be a very interesting day.
The waiver wire was never usually this active when trades in the month of August were still allowed.
However, August trades are no longer allowed.
But Tuesday saw several unprecedented events take place, as several teams placed players on the waiver wire.
Teams have until today to claim these players and ensure that they are eligible for the postseason.
It’s a very confusing process for sure, but luckily, Jon Morosi of MLB Network provided a brief explanation on how waivers works.

Morosi began by introducing waivers as one of his favorite topics.
He revealed that the waiver period is a 48-hour time frame, and that when a team places a claim on a waived player, it takes two days before the claim can be processed and that player can join a new team.
An important thing to remember is that waiver order works in a weird way, as the team with the worst record who places a claim is awarded that player.
Morosi also notes that the team which claims a certain player will have to take on the remaining salary of that player.
Teams can place as many waiver claims as they so wish, as long as they stay within the 40-man roster limit.
The same also applies for released players, who like players on waivers, will be eligible for the postseason if claimed before the deadline.
