The St. Louis Cardinals still seem to be searching for rock bottom.
On Saturday, Adam Wainwright’s return to the starting rotation was spoiled by another bullpen collapse.
As a result, St. Louis lost their eighth consecutive game.
The Cardinals haven’t lost that many consecutive games since September of 2007, when they went on a nine-game skid.
Perhaps the most shocking development is the fact that the team has chosen to pull Willson Contreras from the catcher spot and use him as a designated hitter and outfielder.
On Twitter, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman commented on the Cardinals’ questionable decision and discussed the ramifications of such a drastic shift.
After a little more than a month, Willson Contreras is out as Cardinals catcher, which means they’ve vastly overpaid for a DH/sometime OF that doesn’t fit their roster. Amazing story. https://t.co/bGIWF0fGvd

This certainly is a questionable move by the Cardinals, who made it clear at the onset of the offseason that their primary goal was to add a catcher and replace Yadier Molina.
They gave Contreras a five-year, $87.5 million contract.
Another interesting piece of information is that the team had recently demoted Jordan Walker, their top producing outfielder in order to clear up the logjam in the outfield.
But by planning to use Contreras in the outfield, the logjam not only remains an issue, but also effectively blocks Walker, who seems to have lost his touch in Triple-A.
Fans and media members alike are in agreement that this move by the Cardinals is certainly a head-scratcher.
The team desperately needs to make some adjustments in order to come out of their current funk.
However, the baseball world is left questioning whether this is the right move or not.
