MLB Insider Analyzes The Silence Surrounding Aaron Judge Talks

On Monday, new YES broadcaster Carlos Beltran implied that there might already be an agreement between the New York Yankees and outfielder Aaron Judge for a contract extension.

He later took those comments back, but the Yankee universe started speculating: is an extension done already and the team isn’t announcing it for some reason?

General manager Brian Cashman wouldn’t comment on the situation when asked by the media.

SNY’s Andy Martino commented on the situation on Wednesday afternoon.

“Total silence from parties in Aaron Judge negotiations can, at least in a general sense, be thought a good sign for productive talks. Leaks happen when people get frustrated. My guess is 7 years, $224 million, but no one to my knowledge has concrete reporting on it right now,” Martino tweeted.

Martino makes a good point: usually, when two sides are far apart in negotiations, or talks stall, it gets leaked into the media.

It’s not uncommon to learn through the media that X team broke negotiations with X player’s camp.

That hasn’t happened, at least yet, with Judge.

What Is Happening With Judge And His Potential Extension?

It’s at least possible that there is an agreement in principle, with details to solve, but it’s also plausible that an extension isn’t reached before Opening Day.

Judge has said that he strongly prefers to finish an extension before the season starts.

The Yankees essentially gained a day when their Opening Day date with the Boston Red Sox was pushed to Friday.

Judge has said in the past that he would love to be a Yankee for life, and there is talk that he could be the next captain.

The Yankees haven’t had a captain since Derek Jeter retired.

Is his future tied to the Bronx?

Only time will tell.
