Baseball is a game that never ceases to amaze us as fans.

This is a sport where the unthinkable can happen at any given moment.

There can even come a point where you look up at the MLB leaderboards and somebody you never would have expected to be at the top is actually sitting at the top.

As we look to the top of the leaderboard for batting average across MLB, we’re able to see that none other than Minnesota Twins second baseman Luis Arraez is in that position.

The Twins made sure to celebrate that, tweeting a picture of Arraez with a caption detailing that he is our leader in batting average and on-base percentage.

Consistency For Arraez

Arraez is a key piece in a powerful Twins lineup.

His on-base percentage sits at .447 while his average is at .356.

Surprisingly, Arraez has only hit one home run on the season so far.

But it’s not always a power hitter who has the best average.

In fact, Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Iglesias has not hit a home run to this point of the season, yet he has the third-best average in the National League at .314.

Again, power is not the only thing that makes a great hitter.

Arraez has simply been consistent.

That’s really all it takes to be a great hitter, consistently getting hits and getting on base.

That’s exactly what Arraez has been this season.

He is one of the key pieces in Minnesota’s powerful lineup and is a solid table setter for them.

And now, he’s got the best batting average in all of baseball.

We’ll see if he can make it stick.
