Last night, the ESPY awards were handed out to various athletes and sports figures who had made their mark on their respective sport and the world of sports as a whole.
We saw several athletes take home some well-deserved honors on Wednesday night.
However, one award in particular drew the ire of some fans, particularly considering that it didn’t go to Baltimore Orioles slugger Trey Mancini after his battle with colon cancer.
The award went to Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, who had been out for over two years and came back in full force.
Starting 9, an affiliate of Barstool Sports, tweeted about the award, saying that it should have been Mancini winning it.

Mancini Robbed Of An Honor
Honestly, they are right.
Mancini went through something way worse than what Thompson went through.
That’s not to minimize the struggle after somebody tears their ACL, but for Mancini, it was life or death.
He had cancer right in the height of the COVID pandemic, just when things were getting bad.
All of that and the fact that he had cancer should have been enough to earn him the award.
Mancini came back last season and hit .255 with 21 home runs and 71 RBI.
This year, he’s hitting .277 with nine homers and 37 RBI.
There’s really no reason Mancini shouldn’t have won the award after everything he’s been through.
And it’s not to say that Thompson didn’t deserve it.
After all, he had quite a road to recovery.
But again, Mancini’s situation was life or death, and it seems unfair that he was not given the award considering what he went through.
But we don’t make the rules, unfortunately.
