“Happy 91st birthday to the legendary Willie Mays!,” they wrote via the microblogging site.
The “Say Hey Kid” is a legend in both New York and San Francisco, having played for the Giants franchise for almost all of his career.
The owner of one of the most impressive outfield catches you will ever see, Mays has some incredible totals in his MLB tenure.
He Had An Incredible Career
He hit .302, with 3,283 hits, 660 home runs, 1,903 RBI, and 338 stolen bases.
He played in the same era as Henry Aaron, Mickey Mantle, and other great outfielders, and was one of the very best.
Always full of joy, Mays was a winner on the field.
He won the World Series title in 1954, was a 24-time All-Star (1954–1973), and a two-time MVP (1954, 1965).
He also won the NL Rookie of the Year award (1951), 12 Gold Glove Awards (1957–1968), and was the batting champion in 1954.
He paced the NL in home runs and stolen bases four times each.
He was one of the first real power-speed guys in the game.
Additionally, he had a terrific glove in center field, and is universally loved and respected by the whole baseball community.
Today, we all celebrate Mays’ birthday, and wish him many more years of happiness.
