Baseball is, more than ever, an international game, and MLB understands this.
The league has made efforts to take regular season and exhibition games abroad, so international audiences get to experience the best and most competitive baseball league in the world.
In many places, however, baseball is just as big as in the United States.
It’s not a coincidence, therefore, that there are 275 foreign players on MLB active rosters.

“A global game,” MLB’s official Twitter account wrote on Friday, with a picture of five of the game’s brightest stars: Japan’s Shohei Ohtani, the Dominican Republic’s Juan Soto, Puerto Rico’s Francisco Lindor, Cuba’s Luis Robert, and Venezuela’s Jose Altuve.
Those five are just a small sample of MLB’s global movement.
The World’s Best League Is Represented By Several Countries
Canada’s Joey Votto, Mexico’s Luis Cessa, Nicaragua’s Jonathan Loaisiga, Aruba’s Xander Bogaerts, Colombia’s Gio Urshela, Korea’s Ji-Man Choi… those are some of the represented countries in MLB, and there are plenty more.
Australia, Brazil, Curacao, and Italy also have major league players.
The league should really take advantage of all the international interest in the game, and that’s precisely its intention.
Each culture has something to contribute to the game as a whole, and each one has its own way to play.
The World Baseball Classic (WBC) is the closest thing there is to soccer’s World Cup, and while discussions have centered around the best time to play it, quality players from all around the world often participate.
In any case, fans can enjoy some of the very best players in the world in the major leagues.
International players are influencing the game more than ever, and that’s an excellent thing.
