On Tuesday, the Boston Red Sox made a very important depth move to address the hole at the shortstop position.
With Trevor Story out indefinitely due to elbow surgery, the Red Sox were in need of a temporary solution while they await the slugger’s return.
And so, they may have found it in veteran utilityman Adalberto Mondesi, who they acquired from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for lefty Josh Taylor and a player to be named later.
MLB Network analysts Ron Darling, Yonder Alonso, and Adnan Virk discussed the latest trade for the Red Sox and debated whether or not Mondesi was the solution to their problems.

The discussion mainly focused on who the options for the Red Sox are in the interim.
Enrique Hernandez and Christian Arroyo are some of the current in-house options that could benefit the team in the short term.
Both of them are super-utility players who can play multiple positions.
Alonso described Mondesi as a potential stop gap and bridge to top prospect Marcelo Meyer.
Obviously, Mondesi won’t be an everyday player in Boston with the options that they have.
But the discussion also focused on a key point, that playing certain players out of position can be a risk.
If Hernandez is moved to shortstop, the Red Sox may be using Adam Duvall out in center field.
Granted, that is a position Duvall is familiar with.
But Hernandez is usually the one playing center field.
The Red Sox may not have to worry too much about a risk, however, if Mondesi can give them 100 games, as the analysts alluded to.
