Yuli Gurriel is one of several free agent sluggers who have yet to sign.
After the Houston Astros signed Jose Abreu, Gurriel’s time with the team appeared to be over.
The Miami Marlins were a team that had shown interest in the veteran slugger, but with the recent trade that landed them the reigning American League batting champion in Luis Arraez, that window could be closed.
But that doesn’t mean that others opportunities aren’t potentially awaiting the two-time World Series champion.
Late on Thursday, former GM and current MLB Network analyst Steve Phillips discussed where things stand right now with Gurriel’s market.

According to Phillips, the Minnesota Twins are a team that has shown some interest in the 38-year-old.
With Arraez having been traded, there could be an opening at the first base position.
Phillips noted that Alex Kirilloff is more likely to be the everyday first baseman.
But Gurriel could still get some looks there and also be used as a designated hitter.
The former general manager also mentioned the Astros as a possibility.
Granted, his role in Houston would be greatly reduced due to the Abreu signing, but he could still get some at-bats and be used as a DH.
An important thing to note is that the slugger does have some solid connections with both organizations.
His connections with the Astros are quite obvious, given the fact that he has been with the team for the vast majority of his career.
But Carlos Correa is also in Minnesota, and the two were teammates in Houston from 2016-2021.
