MLB Already Showing Off Potential Playoff Matchups

The 2022 MLB season is already two months old: who would have thought that would be the case after the rough lockout months?

In these two months, we are already pretty much aware of the best and worst teams in the league.

The league’s official Twitter account is already fantasizing with playoffs matchups, and you know what?

It’s never too early to do that!

“The weather is warm, but we’re already thinking about October,” MLB tweeted.

They posted a picture with the playoffs matchups if the season ended today:

Postseason Matchups If The Season Ended Today

The New York Yankees and the Houston Astros, owners of the two best records in the American League, would automatically advance to the Division Series.

The same would happen with the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League.

The third and sixth seeds in the junior circuit, the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox, respectively, would face off in the Wild Card series in a best-of-three showdown.

The fourth and fifth seeds, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays, would do the same.

In the National League, the Wild Card series today would be Milwaukee Brewers (3) vs. the San Francisco Giants (6); and the San Diego Padres (4) vs. the St. Louis Cardinals (5).

Several high-profile teams would be left out of the party if things ended today.

For example, the reigning World Series champions, the Atlanta Braves, aren’t making the playoffs as of now, and neither are the Philadelphia Phillies, the Chicago White Sox, or the Los Angeles Angels.

Of course, there is a lot of baseball left to play, so these matchups aren’t final yet.

But it’s always fun to imagine the postseason, no matter which month it is.
