Scott Boras is one of baseball’s most influential agents.
Boras is well known for helping his clients negotiate in order to get the best possible deals they can in free agency.
One of his clients is Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease, who put together a Cy Young caliber season, going 14-8 with a 2.20 ERA in 32 starts.
Cease will be a free agent after the 2025 season.
White Sox analyst James Fegan had a chance to catch up with Boras and asked him if he was “dead set” on getting Cease to free agency.
Boras replied by referencing Stephen Strasburg and how he got a contract extension before free agency.
“Our job is to listen, take information, and then we transfer that to Dylan to see what he wants,” Boras said.
Scott Boras noted that Stephen Strasburg once signed an extension before free agency, in response to my Q on whether he was dead set on getting Dylan Cease to FA after 2025

Boras Weighs In On Cease And Free Agency
This is of course what the job of an agent entails.
Because Cease will not be a free agent until after the 2025 season, there is still time for the White Sox to try and negotiate a potential contract extension with their ace.
Cease emerged as a frontline starter in 2022 and now finds himself in the mix for the American League Cy Young Award.
Though it most likely will go to Justin Verlander, Cease is definitely somebody who could earn himself a nice payday, whether that comes via contract extension or in free agency after 2025.
Despite Cease’s breakout campaign, the White Sox still fell well short of the postseason in 2022, but locking up Cease at some point would give them a clear direction for the future.
