Fans wanting to know the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback for 2022 now have an answer.
The Steelers made quarterback Mitchell Trubisky their team captain and starting quarterback.
While many fans want Kenny Pickett to start, Trubisky is their best choice.
However, some doubt this, based on his performance as a starting QB with the Chicago Bears.
But he’s on a team with better coaches over Chicago’s prior coaching staff.
So why is he the team’s best choice, despite a terrible past in Chicago?
Trubisky Shows He’s Turning A Corner With Better Coaching
The NFL preseason was kind to the new starting QB in Pittsburgh.
He did exactly the things needed to win his starting job.
However, not everyone is seeing his improvements over the time he spent in Chicago.
Mitch Trubisky really isn’t getting enough credit for how he played in the preseason. He was wonderful. Did everything asked of him. And it is almost like many are kind of just waiting for him to stumble.

Those fans see a QB who isn’t a first-round caliber quarterback.
But he’s proving that coaching is why he wasn’t that caliber of a QB in Chicago.
He’s improving his play by taking the time to make better reads.
A lack of reading his options was a problem he never overcame in Chicago.
However, he’s showing progress in that department.
While he got the starting job from his performance, he also has a big-name player in his corner.
Former Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger Believes In Mitch
If Steelers fans aren’t sold on Trubisky, maybe they can find reassurance from Big Ben.
The former Super Bowl champion Steelers QB has come out as a supporter of Mitch getting the starting job.
Roethlisberger gives Trubisky his endorsement as the starter. The Steelers name him a team captain. Big question for me as we embark on the first game week is this: What's changed for the better about Mitch since things went sideways in Chicago?

He believes Pickett can learn from the more experienced QB of the group.
While the endorsement doesn’t mean he doubts Pickett, it means he thinks he’s better off sitting and learning during this time.
However, one fan believes his take on the QB situation is void, seeing he stepped in as a rookie QB himself after one game and took over the Steelers QB position.
Ben Roethlisberger sat 1… ONE game behind the veteran Tommy Maddox, before donning the reigns. He should not be weighing in on Trubisky vs Pickett.

But what this fan doesn’t see is how Big Ben is speaking from his experience.
While he found success after being thrown into the fire, he might see things differently when looking back.
Trubisky Is Ready To Lead
After suffering for four years at the hands of terrible coaching in Chicago, the Steelers’ starting QB is ready to be a leader.
He’s on a solid team with great coaching.
These are things helping him become the leader Chicago wanted from him.
He only lacked the proper tools on that Bears roster to lead them.
However, he’s got the tools for success in Pittsburgh.
The coaching staff is there for him, willing to help him fix his problems.
Along with his coaching staff, he’ll have solid players behind him.
Chase Claypool, Najee Harris, and Diontae Johnson are just some of his offensive weapons.
He’s got a great defense to get him excellent field position in games.
Larry Ogunjobi, T.J. Watt, and Minkah Fitzpatrick round out some of the defensive stars.
With him leading Pittsburgh in 2022, the Steelers are in the hands of a hungry quarterback wanting to change his past.
