Miles Mikolas had another outing to forget on Wednesday as the St. Louis Cardinals dropped their series finale to the Atlanta Braves, resulting in a three-game sweep.
Though he was more efficient than he was on Opening Day, making it through six innings, he still allowed five runs for the second straight game.
The Cardinals are now 2-4 to start the season.
After their loss to the Braves, Mikolas was interviewed by the media and discussed his outing, including what went wrong for him and what he needs to do in order to improve and have a better outing the next time he pitches.
Mikolas on his start against the Braves: "It's my job to go out there and kind of set the tone for the game, and I didn't do a great job at that. … I'll stick with it, and I'll get outs. It's not an ideal first two starts to the season." #STLCards pic.twitter.com/suKYrTnKMZ

Mikolas started off with a very blunt assessment of his performance, saying that he understands what his job is, which is to set the tone early, but acknowledging that he wasn’t able to do that on Wednesday.
The veteran right-hander bemoaned his pitch to Matt Olson in the second inning that was hit out to center field for a home run, expressing his frustration over where he located the ball.
He said that he was happy with the way he was able to limit the damage after the first inning, but that he still is working to try and clean up his issue with first innings.
In each of his two starts, he has allowed three runs in the first inning.
However, Mikolas isn’t too worried about things and said that he’ll stick with his gameplan, which is to try and get hitters out, while also acknowledging that his start to the season is not ideal.
