Most Dallas Cowboys fans might not be thrilled about the idea of having HC Mike McCarthy calling the plays on offense.
His final days with the Green Bay Packers left some to be desired in that regard, and Dak Prescott is no Aaron Rodgers by any means.
However, reports from the Cowboys’ camp have been encouraging, and the players seem to be quite on board with what the veteran coach has put together for them offensively ahead of next season.
The Cowboys brought in Brian Schottenheimer as their new offensive coordinator, albeit he’ll be in charge of game-planning, not play-calling.
McCarthy claimed that he won’t change everything Kellen Moore had in place or develop an entire playbook, citing that the offense would still be in “Dak’s language,” per NFL.com.
“This is our first year of playing the way we want to play, and he’s [Dak] done a really good job of taking ownership of that and with that the mental challenges,” McCarthy said. “He’s knocked it out of the park.”

Notably, it’s not like the Cowboys had struggled on that side of the field by any means.
They had one of the most explosive offenses in the league in both total points and total yards in back-to-back seasons.
But Prescott’s proneness to turn the ball over, Ezekiel Elliott’s inefficiency, and some head-scratching decision-making down the stretch often stood in their way to success, especially against teams with a winning record.
The Cowboys have now added more depth behind CeeDee Lamb and will hopefully get more production on the ground with Tony Pollard as their bell-cow RB.
Even so, it will all go down to Dak having a bounce-back year after leading the league in interceptions (15) last season despite missing multiple games with an injury.
