Detroit Tigers legendary slugger Miguel Cabrera came up empty in his first attempt to reach the 3,000-hit club, but fans all over the city of Detroit packed Comerica Park on Thursday, waiting in anticipation to see their star make history.
They’ll do the same on Friday night, when the Tigers open up a three-game series at home against the Colorado Rockies.
But fans all across the city were skipping work and skipping school for a chance to see Miggy work some magic.
Cabrera said he had kids telling him about skipping school yesterday to see him pick up his 3,0000th career hit.
“I got a lot of kids telling me, ‘I skipped school.’ I said, ‘No, don’t do that!'”

C’mon, Miggy!
It’s good to see Cabrera care about kids’ educations, but who wouldn’t want to skip school to see him reach 3,000 hits?
That’s something that could be a once in a lifetime experience for many fans.
Rarely are fans going to have a chance to witness history live.
The city of Detroit has loved Cabrera ever since he arrived in Detroit in 2008 and all they want is to see him make a little history.
The 3,000-hit club is an all-exclusive club with only one player still active today, that being Albert Pujols.
Cabrera has inched ever so closely to becoming the newest member of the club and the second current player to join the list.
What kid wouldn’t want to miss school to see the great Cabrera pick up hit No. 3,000?
And what parent in the Detroit area wouldn’t want to give their kids the opportunity to take the day off to see some history?
Remember kids, baseball is more important than your homework.
Skip school so you can witness history.
