The New York Mets have spent the past couple of days attempting to finalize their coaching staff and front office for the 2023 season.
Today, they made a promotion from within the organization, hiring Drew Toussaint to the position of amateur scouting director.
Toussaint had been a member of the Mets scouting department for a number of years.
Last season, he served as the assistant director of amateur and international scouting.
Will Sammon, who covers the Mets for The Athletic, was the first to report on the news of the Mets most recent hire, and he gave a quick synopsis of Toussaint’s work while in the Mets organization.

Clearly, the Mets like what they have seen out of Toussaint over his several years with the organization and have promoted him to an important role.
The Mets also clearly preferred to choose the next candidate from within the organization instead of looking at external options.
New York already has a stacked roster at the big-league level after signing Justin Verlander, Brandon Nimmo, Kodai Senga, Jose Quintana, and potentially Carlos Correa.
Scouting directors play a very important role in evaluating talent at the minor-league level, and it’s possible that the Mets believe Toussaint could help them find some future hidden gems from outside of the organization to replenish their farm system.
Drafting is also a key component of the job.
The Mets will hope that Toussaint can find some solid young talent in the upcoming draft to help add to their farm system and sustain success long term.
