With not many free agents still left unsigned, we have hit somewhat of a lull in the 2022-23 MLB offseason.
But that doesn’t mean that there won’t be any more activity, nor does it mean that teams are going to sit on their hands.
The New York Mets have had the busiest offseason of the 30 teams in Major League Baseball, signing stars such as Justin Verlander, Jose Quintana, Brandon Nimmo, and Kodai Senga, with the potential addition of Carlos Correa pending a physical.
Today, the Mets made a key addition to their coaching staff, hiring former MLB player Eric Hinske as their assistant hitting coach.
Ken Rosenthal announced the news via Twitter.
Eric Hinske expected to be Mets’ new assistant hitting coach, sources tell @TheAthletic. The Mets shuffled coaching roles early in the offseason, naming Eric Chavez bench coach and Jeremy Barnes hitting coach. Hinske previously worked for Mets GM Billy Eppler with Angels in ‘18.

The Mets had made a few changes to their coaching staff early in the offseason, promoting Eric Chavez to the bench coach role and Jeremy Barnes to the hitting coach role.
Hinske worked under Mets General Manager Billy Eppler during the latter’s time with the Los Angeles Angels.
The 45-year-old played 12 seasons in the big-leagues, spending the vast majority of his career with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hinske was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2006 and was a member of their 2007 World Series championship team.
Hinske also spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves, and Arizona Diamondbacks, winning another ring with the Yankees in 2009.
The 12-year MLB veteran also spent some time on the Chicago Cubs coaching staff from 2014-17 and spent three years as a coach with the Diamondbacks.
