After the failed Carlos Correa saga, some people thought the New York Mets would call it an offseason and head to the 2023 season with what they have.
That’s not necessarily true.
A team with as many resources as the Mets have should always be monitoring the market in search of potential opportunities.
In fact, Correa was an unexpected opportunity due to his failed physical with the San Francisco Giants.
The team might be interested in bringing in at least one additional right-handed bat, preferably an outfielder.
“#Mets have remained in contact with free agents Andrew McCutchen and Trey Mancini, as others have reported. Of note: Buck Showalter was Mancini’s manager in Baltimore for his first two full @MLB seasons,” MLB insider Jon Morosi tweeted.

Mancini is 30, and despite his horrific performance with the Houston Astros after being traded there last year, hit 18 home runs and had a 104 wRC+.
His defense is not overly exciting, though, and he has two years of virtually average offensive performance in MLB.
McCutchen is declining because he is 36 and that’s what the human body does.
However, he could be a slightly above-average offensive performer with his excellent eye at the plate and occasional home run.
He was an elite player back in the day, and while he is far from that level at the moment, he could be a useful corner outfielder/designated hitter type in Queens.
It remains to be seen if the Mets are serious about making further additions after spending millions in free agency this year.
