The New York Mets have been one of the busiest teams this offseason.
After losing Jacob deGrom and Chris Bassitt in free agency, Owner Steve Cohen quickly pivoted to other options, signing the American League Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander to a two-year, $86 million contract.
But Cohen didn’t stop there, and he added two more pitchers in Jose Quintana and Kodai Senga.
Brandon Nimmo also remained a Met, and the team signed catcher Omar Narvaez to a one-year, $8 million contract last night.
That all adds up to $476.6 million spent on free agents by the Mets this offseason.
Cohen is approaching half-a-billion dollars in payroll expenditures, and that’s without counting the luxury-tax bills he’ll have to pay.

The Mets Continue To Spend
It’s clear that Cohen is the type of owner that wants to win at all costs.
Luxury-tax thresholds clearly mean nothing to him.
This is good news for the Mets.
On the heels of a 101-win season, their owner continues to be aggressive in his attempts to improve the club for 2023.
The Mets are bound and determined to win a World Series in 2023, as evidenced by the amount of money Cohen has invested in all the free agents the team has signed.
And there’s no reason to believe Cohen will stop here.
His goals are quite obvious.
Even with luxury-tax thresholds, Cohen can still afford to sign as many free agents as he wants.
The Mets have stacked their roster for 2023 and look prepared to take another shot at a World Series title.
