Mets Jump Ahead In Early Odds For The Division

When they woke up on Wednesday, the New York Mets did it as owners of MLB’s best record in the young 2022 season, at 9-3.

They swept Tuesday’s doubleheader against the San Francisco Giants.

Tylor Megill had allowed four early runs, but bounced back to pitch six strong innings with those four runs conceded in total.

That was in Game 1: in Game 2, ace Max Scherzer manhandled the Giants’ hitters for seven frames, in which he surrendered a single run in seven frames, striking out 10.

Before Wednesday’s games, the Mets had already built a 3.5-game advantage over the 6-7 Atlanta Braves and the Washington Nationals.

It doesn’t take a genius to notice that the Mets are very, very good, and that they will be even better when fellow ace Jacob deGrom returns to the mound, whenever that happens.

The Mets Are Favored To Make The Playoffs

The Mets, as a result of their excellent early performance, have already leapfrogged the Braves as the favorites to win the NL East division.

“Probabilistically speaking, it took the Mets a dozen games to edge in front of the Braves as NL East favorites (per Fangraphs data),” Anthony DiComo, who covers the Mets for MLB.com, tweeted.

He also attached the picture of FanGraphs’ chart, explaining how the Mets are now favorites to take the division.

In reality, what is being discussed by FanGraphs is each team’s playoff odds, or the chances they have of earning a postseason berth.

Both the Mets and the Braves are around the 86 percent range, which is quite a lot.

The rest of the teams aren’t very likely to make it into October, at least according to FanGraphs.

It goes to show just how good the Mets have become.
