The New York Mets‘ roster is currently going through a bit of an injury crisis.
Jacob deGrom suffered a stress reaction of his right scapula, and is already out of action for a couple of months.
There are other banged up players whose status for Opening Day, however, remains up in the air.
The New York Post’s columnist Joel Sherman commented on their status on Wednesday.
“#Mets enter their workout today having yet to make a decision about roster/early season use status of Nimmo, Scherzer and Walker. Hear no final decisions until after the workout and may wait until tomorrow to determine if Scherzer is up to starting Friday in DC,” he tweeted.

Max Scherzer, who is battling some hamstring soreness, threw a bullpen session yesterday and was spotted throwing again today, so unless his hamstring doesn’t respond well to the continued activity, he should be on track to take the ball on Friday in the second regular season game against the Washington Nationals.
Nimmo And Walker Will Be Evaluated
Brandon Nimmo is being affected by a stiff neck, and received a cortisone injection in the last couple of days.
He is still being evaluated with an eye on Opening Day, and his availability will likely impact Travis Jankowski‘s presence on the roster as a reserve outfielder.
Taijuan Walker’s availability may prove to be an issue.
During his last spring training start this week, in which he was battered, he reported some soreness in his surgically-repaired knee that may or may not require a stint on the injured list.
Like Scherzer and Nimmo, he will be evaluated in the upcoming hours.
The Mets’ final roster will likely depend on the health of those three players.
