Mets Insider Shares Full Breakdown Of Robinson Cano’s Paycheck

Before the 2019 season, the New York Mets acquired Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for several assets, including top prospects Jarred Kelenic and Justin Dunn.

As part of the deal, the Mariners agreed to pay a portion of Cano’s $24 million salary for several years that were left on his contract.

But the Mets didn’t have a place for Cano on their roster after the first month of this season, so they released him.

The San Diego Padres picked him up on a minor league contract and he later played 12 lousy games with the big club.

A few days ago, the Atlanta Braves decided to trade for the 39-year-old slugger.

It has been quite a journey for the controversial second baseman, but here we are: he is still playing MLB games, and three teams are pitching in to pay his contract.

“If my math is correct, Canó will make $128,342 for each game he plays this series. Of that, the Mets will pay Canó $104,545 to play against them. The Mariners will pick up $20,053 of the remainder, and the Braves, Canó’s actual employer, will pay $3,743,” MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Four Teams Have Paid Him This Season

That’s quite a detailed breakdown.

These are the teams currently paying Cano: if we consider he actually got checks from the Padres, then four different organizations have paid him in 2022.

That’s got to be some kind of a record.

Despite his .408 OPS between the three teams, Cano keeps getting chances to play in the majors.

At one point, he is going to have to produce, otherwise his career could end eventually without any additional offers from MLB organizations.

The Braves will give him a chance for the time being.
