There might not be a fan base in MLB that hates more teams than the New York Mets.
Perhaps “hate” is a strong word, but it’s your typical “sports-related hate” more than the actual meaning of the word which is not nice at all.
If you follow sports passionately like us, you know what we are talking about.
Back to our main topic: the Mets have beef, or rivalries, with several other organizations.
Seeing how they were quickly knocked out from the 2022 postseason, fans are not only disappointed that the dream of winning the World Series is over.
Now, in addition to that, rooting for another team out of sympathy could be an impossible task.
“So if Mets fans want to root for a team to win the World Series, their options are: * the team that eliminated the Mets * an NL East rival * a widely hated team that had a massive cheating scandal a couple of years ago * literally the Yankees,” Newsday’s Tim Healey tweeted.

The tweet is hilarious and yet a bit cruel, but it perfectly sums up how Mets fans are feeling.
Mets Have No Choices
The Mets have a rivalry with the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies, mostly because they share a division and their fates are tied to each other every year.
That gives all three enough chances to build good and bad memories against the other team.
Rooting for the Phillies, therefore, is hard.
Another option would be rooting for the San Diego Padres, but they just eliminated them with controversy included – the Joe Musgrove Eargate – so hoping for them to win it all would also feel…weird.
The Houston Astros are universally disliked outside of the Texas for their 2017 sign-stealing scandal, although that sentiment is decreasing every year.
The other option would be the Yankees, and that’s not going to happen for most Mets fans: they are the crosstown rivals!
You could even say the Mets were born out of Yankees hatred.
It’s definitely a tough choice.
At least the NBA season has already started.
