Ever since he took over the New York Mets in late 2020, and learned to use Twitter, Steve Cohen became one of the must-follow accounts for baseball fans, especially those who support the Mets.
Known in the Twitterverse as “Uncle Stevie”, he became sort of a Santa Claus for Mets fans: they asked for expensive reinforcements and key pieces, and they got them.
Over the last couple of years, the relationship between Cohen and Mets fans became one of mutual respect.
Not only did Cohen satisfy his desire to interact with them, but he has proven over time that he actually listens to them and takes some of their recommendations.
Overall, he is sensitive to his fan base desires and needs, and he does his best to incorporate that information to the team as well as possible.
After all, everyone in the community wants the Mets to succeed: Cohen and the team supporters.
Cohen Listened To Fans In The Mets’ Latest Roster Decision
This became evident in the Mets’ treatment of the Robinson Cano situation.
Facing a roster crunch (teams need to have 26 men instead of 28 by today), New York designated Cano for assignment.
They need to trade or release the former star.
“One thing that shouldn’t be underestimated: Steve Cohen is on Twitter. He listens to the fans. He listens to the boos Cano has heard. He realizes this was an unpopular player among the paying customers. If a tiebreaker on the DFA decision was needed, this may have been it,” Mets insider Mike Puma tweeted.

Over 43 plate appearances, Cano is hitting .195/.233/.268 with one home run.
It’s clear that, by performance, he was the piece to let go.
Fans thought so, and the organization sure considers their opinion when possible.
