After unveiling Tom Seaver‘s statue on Friday afternoon, the New York Mets took the field to play against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The game was being played at Citi Field, and it was the Mets’ home opener after they embarked on a successful road trip to open the season.
Naturally, and especially knowing how much the front office and ownership invested on the roster, fans were extremely excited about watching their team live, at the venue.
There were several rounds of applause as the members of the 2022 Mets were introduced.
However, MLB.com’s beat writer Anthony DiComo offered more details about who was cheered louder.
“Loudest ovations at the Mets’ home opener, by my ears, were for: 1. Jacob deGrom 2. Max Scherzer 3. Tylor Megill. Edwin Díaz, Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, Chris Bassitt and Buck Showalter also received notable rounds of applause,” DiComo tweeted.

Mets Fans Have A Lot To Cheer For
Fans can say lots of things about the Mets, but they do have the best active pitcher alive in deGrom.
It’s easy to understand why Mets fans absolutely adore him: he has won two Cy Young awards and was well on his way to a third one last year if it wasn’t for injuries.
Scherzer represents the hope for a super-rotation that can be untouchable in October.
As a 37-year-old hurler, he finished with a 2.46 ERA last year, so he earned $130 million from the Mets in the offseason.
Megill has made two strong starts in a row and looks like a keeper in the rotation, as does Bassiitt.
Lindor and Alonso, especially the latter, are two beloved members of the organization, while Showalter is a likable figure trying to lead the Mets to their first World Series title since 1986.
