It’s no secret that the New York Mets have been the best team in the National League to this point in the season.
Even after losing pitchers Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, and Tylor Megill to injuries, the Mets have continued to win ballgames and prove what they are capable of.
However, things might have just gotten a little bit harder for them.
After a night in which Eduardo Escobar hit for the cycle, the Mets had a rough one on Tuesday, falling to the San Diego Padres, 7-0.
Even worse, both Pete Alonso and Starling Marte had to exit the game early due to injuries, and Mets writer Anthony DiComo says that there aren’t any updates on the two of them as on now.
Still no updates on Pete Alonso and Starling Marte despite going for further tests last night, as a team spokesman said. (Buck Showalter had indicated they wouldn't receive such testing until today.)
OF Khalil Lee is out of the Syracuse lineup, but 1B Dominic Smith is in there.

Injuries Mount For Mets
Any time without either of these stars would be a devastating blow for New York.
The bats have been booming all season.
But losing both Alonso and Marte in addition to the three pitchers on the injured list would hurt them and might cause a little regression.
They still lead the NL East by eight games over the Atlanta Braves, but if they start to slide as a result of these injuries, then the defending champions could get back in the race.
We don’t know for certain how long Alonso and Marte will be out, as DiComo mentioned.
The two sluggers are set to undergo more testing today to determine the severity of their injuries.
But if one or both of them go on the injured list, that’s bad news for the Mets.
Losing big names such as those can suck the air out of a team a little.
We’ll see if any updates become available later today.
