The New York Mets thought they had Carlos Correa gift-wrapped and ready to be delivered to fans as a Christmas present.
However, the deal was paused because the Mets, much like the San Francisco Giants before them, found some issues with his medical records.
It’s January 6 and the two sides still haven’t been able to sort things out.
Correa’s future is in limbo, and he is now reportedly talking to other teams.
On Thursday, a new report came out.
SNY reported that negotiations with Correa and the Mets had “ran into at least a hiccup or two.”
However, a Mets source said that “ultimately, I don’t think Mr. Cohen is going to let him go.”
Mets fan Christopher Soto is not buying that, though: he thinks it will be a matter of days before Correa is officially signed and introduced as a member of the Mets.
“Yea I’m not putting much stock into this report. The way I see it…..Correa would not have shared that picture of him and his kid if there was any doubt he is going to be a Met. This deal will get done soon,” he tweeted.

It’s highly unlikely that Steve Cohen, the Mets’ owner, and Billy Eppler, the general manager, give up on their efforts to sign Correa out of concerns with an old injury.
The shortstop was stellar in 2021 and 2022, is a known postseason beast, and remains highly effective offensively and defensively.
Oh, and he is still just 28.
Other organizations are entering the push, but in the end, the Mets should be the favorites to have him on their roster by Opening Day.
