Today, the Washington Nationals made a solid bargain move in free agency, signing veteran first baseman and outfielder Dominic Smith to a one-year deal.
The deal is worth $2 million plus incentives that could take the deal up to $4 million, according to Jon Heyman.
Smith has spent the entirety of his career with the New York Mets.
The 27-year-old made his MLB debut with the team in 2017.
He owns a career .246 batting average and WAR of 0.2.
Smith has also hit a total of 46 home runs.
On Twitter, a Mets fan discussed the Nationals latest signing and also thanked Smith for his time in New York, wishing him well in Washington.

Smith had a disappointing season in 2022, which proved to be his final season in Mets orange and blue.
The versatile left-handed hitter posted a poor .194 mark at the plate and did not hit a home run.
During his time in New York, Smith did show flashes of his potential.
He gave the Mets some power from the left side of the plate and the ability to play multiple positions on the field.
The veteran slugger’s best season with the Mets came in 2020, a season which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 50 games, Smith hit 10 home runs and drove in 42, while posting a career high .316 batting average.
Smith was a fan favorite in New York and brought great energy to the team, as was mentioned in the tweet above.
The veteran could end up being an option at the designated hitter position for the Nationals.
