Jacob deGrom may be the top starting pitcher available on the free agent market.
Along with Justin Verlander and Carlos Rodon, deGrom is expected to draw the most interest from suitors.
The New York Mets will be in constant talks with their ace as they attempt to retain him.
However, the two-time Cy Young is drawing interest from the Texas Rangers, and it appears that the interest could be mutual.
On Twitter, one Mets analyst expressed concern about the idea of deGrom potentially signing in Texas, citing that they have finished below the .500 mark every year since 2017, missing the postseason in the process.
If Texas Rangers are highest bidder for Jacob deGrom, he’ll prob end up there, and that could be a real shame
Rangers over last 5 seasons:
68-94 in 2022
60-102 in 2021
22-38 in 2020
78-84 in 2019
67-95 in 2018Suppose they can turn it around, but deGrom belongs on win-now team

Mets Analyst Expresses Concern Over deGrom
Texas could emerge as the highest bidder for deGrom in free agency.
The Rangers have reportedly been checking in on deGrom and Rodon this offseason, and have already slightly upgraded their rotation with the addition of Jake Odorizzi.
If deGrom leaves, the Mets would be left without an ace next to Max Scherzer and the Rangers would become an instant favorite to reach the postseason for the first time since 2016.
After signing Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, the Rangers fell flat in 2022, losing 94 games and finishing in fourth place in the American League West.
But adding deGrom to the rotation would put them in position to finally contend.
As for the Mets, they would need to go and find another high-end starter to replace deGrom if he leaves.
Verlander and Rodon are possibilities there.
Things are about to get exciting in the free agent market.
