The poor Milwaukee Brewers hitters didn’t stand a chance.
On Monday, New York Mets starter Max Scherzer pitched six perfect innings against the Brew Crew, striking out nine hitters and completely dominating the opposition from start to finish.
The most impressive part of it all was that Scherzer was returning from a stint on the injured list with some left oblique soreness, a problem that kept him seven weeks on the shelf between May and July.
He was out of action since September, yet it seemed like he never left if you saw him carve through the Brewers lineup.
The victory helped the Mets secure a spot in the playoffs.
Scherzer made history with his perfection, even if it was just for six innings.
“Max Scherzer pitched 4.1 perfect innings of relief in his MLB debut on April 29, 2008. Tonight he pitched 6.0 perfect innings in a start for the @Mets. He’s the only pitcher in the modern era to have a perfect outing of 4.0+ innings as a starter and as a reliever in his career,” Stats by STATS tweeted.

Perfect Scherzer
That 2008 achievement seems like ages ago: it came during his MLB debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He achieved perfection in the bullpen for 4.1 innings.
Now, 14 years later, he throws six perfect innings as a starter to “close” the circle.
Scherzer, who has a pristine 2.15 ERA in 133.2 innings with the Mets this year, is looking for his second career World Series title.
The Mets have a good chance to compete for it, but will need him to be at the top of his game for the whole month of October.
If he is healthy, Scherzer will form a deadly one-two punch with Jacob deGrom in the rotation.
