The Dallas Mavericks went all in this weekend.
They made a huge gamble by trading for the most untrustworthy player in the league and perhaps one of the most unreliable athletes in history.
Kyrie Irving has proven that he cannot be trusted, and you never even know if he’ll actually suit up and play.
However, his talent was enticing enough to make Mark Cuban’s team fall for his bluff and get him for the next couple of months at the very least.
The Mavericks sent Spencer Dinwiddie, Doriann Finney-Smith, one first-round pick, and two second-round picks for Irving and Markieff Morris, even knowing that it could be just a rental for a guy that’s constantly lied about wanting to stay with a team.
Needless to say, the move didn’t go unnoticed by oddsmakers, as the Mavs went from +1900 to +1400 to win the NBA Championship upon his arrival, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

No one can deny that Kyrie is one of the most disruptive offensive forces in the league.
He might have the best handles this game has ever seen, and his ability to knock down shots from all three levels is just mesmerizing.
However, he does have a history of lack of accountability and insubordination, and that might not sit well for a team that’s trying to go from mid-tier to becoming a legit championship contender.
Also, it’s not like he’s found much playoff success since leaving Cleveland.
Time will tell, but all things considered, the Mavs may have made a terrible mistake with this trade.
