The Dallas Mavericks took down the Utah Jazz on Thursday night, securing their victory in the first round and ending the Jazz’s up-and-down, challenged season.
With their win, the Mavericks are going onto the second round to face off against the Phoenix Suns in a series that is sure to be widely entertaining.
Thursday’s victory was a big one for many reasons but it also surprisingly marked a return to greatness for the team.

For the first time since the 2011 NBA Finals, the Mavericks won a playoff series.
As every NBA fan knows, 2011 was an awfully good postseason for the Mavericks.
Will 2022 be a great one as well?
The Road Ahead
Back in 2011, the Mavericks took down the rest of the league and eventually became NBA champions after defeating the Miami Heat, 4-2 in the Finals.
This year, whoever makes it out of the West – whether it be the Mavericks or any other team – might face off against the Heat yet again.
That’s because Jimmy Butler and his Miami squad are doing incredibly well and have what it takes to go all the way.
But before Dallas could even get to that point, they have a few other obstacles in their way.
The biggest is the opponent that’s up next: the Phoenix Suns.
The Suns are technically the best team in the league and easily one of the hardest to defend.
They are dangerous from all over the floor and will certainly push the Mavericks to their limit.
But that doesn’t mean Dallas won’t be able to slip by Phoenix and move onto the third round of the playoffs.
With a healthy and full roster, the Mavericks are trying to make history repeat itself.
