It didn’t take long before the Dallas Mavericks moved from one future Hall of Famer to another.
Luka Doncic proved to be more than capable of carrying Dirk Nowitzki’s torch, and he became one of the most prominent figures in the league in little-to-no time.
But as impressive as he’s been in the early stages of his career, with great power comes great responsibility, and he’s facing criticism for the first time in his career.
Doncic has never been — and likely will never be — a good defender, but he seems to run out of gas late in games, which could be due to subpar conditioning.
With that in mind, Mavs officials have reportedly reached out to him about “decreasing his preferred playing weight” this summer, according to a report by The Ahltetic’s Tim Cato (via Legion Hoops).

Doncic has often slimmed down in the offseason but then gains some weight back throughout the course of the season.
He likes to party, and his eating habits reportedly aren’t exactly the best, which has obviously led to this kind of stuff.
It’s hard to judge a 24-year-old making that much money for some of his choices, but the clock seems to be ticking on him.
Doncic is quite competitive, and he’s heard all the chatter, which is why he seems to be in the best shape of his career ahead of the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
Now, the challenge will be to keep that same intensity and workout and diet habits throughout the whole campaign.
The league isn’t ready for a fit Luka Doncic, that’s for sure.
