Shortly after Matt Chapman was traded over to the Toronto Blue Jays from the Oakland Athletics, the Blue Jays took it upon themselves to lock up their newly acquired third baseman.

Yesterday, on the final day to negotiate salaries and reach a deal to avoid arbitration, Chapman got a two-year extension from his new team.

The deal is worth $25 million.

And Chapman seems pretty happy about his new deal and the money he’s going to earn as a result of it, saying that he’s excited to get going with the Blue Jays and that his transition to a new team has gone really well.

Extension talks between Blue Jays and Matt Chapman began very quickly after he was acquired. He was eager to have contract certainty for the next two years:

"It's great. It's been a really cool transition over to the Blue Jays — and it just seems like it keeps getting better."

Chapman Happy To Be A Blue Jay

This is what you want to hear if you’re a Blue Jays fan.

Chapman is locked up for the next two years and is excited to be part of the Blue Jays organization.

Picking him up was a win-now move for Toronto, who looks to be the favorite in the American League East division entering 2022, if not the entire American League.

But Chapman believes that things can only get better from here.

Again, this is what a Blue Jays fan wants to hear.

Their new acquisition is thrilled to be a part of the organization and is ready to win some games and make some noise in 2022.

And you can’t blame him for being excited.

He gets to share a lineup with Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Cavan Biggio.

He also gets to play behind a solid starting rotation that includes Jose Berrios, Kevin Gausman, Hyun-Jin Ryu, and Yusei Kikuchi.

We’ll see if the Blue Jays can live up to their expectations.

But for now, Chapman is just happy to have a chance at winning a World Series title with his new squad.
