The Miami Marlins are making some serious strides towards creating a more diverse and inclusive atmosphere in Major League Baseball.
The Marlins already have Kim Ng as their general manager, who when hired in 2020 was the first woman hired to run an MLB team’s baseball operations.
Two years later, the Marlins have made yet another stride towards inclusivity.
Today, it was announced that the team would be promoting Caroline O’Connor to the president of business operations position.
With the promotion of O’Connor, the Marlins have become the first American sports franchise to have women operating the entirety of their day-to-day business.

Marlins Break Barriers With Latest Promotion
This is a huge step forward for the game of baseball and for sports as a whole as society takes further steps towards diversity and inclusivity.
O’Connor was initially hired by the Marlins in October of 2017, becoming the team’s senior vice president and Chief of Staff.
She was promoted to the Chief Operating Officer role in 2019.
After six years with the organization, O’Connor has been promoted to the president of business operations position.
The Marlins have been busy over the past two months, hiring former St. Louis Cardinals bench coach Skip Schumaker to be their new manager, replacing the departed Don Mattingly.
They also hired Jon Jay as their new first base coach.
Now, the Marlins have taken some important steps forward in promoting O’Connor to her new position.
Ng and O’Connor are now the two highest ranking women in Major League Baseball.
