October is always a time for historic moments to take place.
It’s when the great game of baseball is truly at its best.
Fans of almost every team in Major League Baseball have at least some fond memories of Octobers past.
Today, October 26, is the 25th anniversary of when Edgar Renteria hit a soft liner into center field to help the then-Florida Marlins overcome the Cleveland Indians in Game 7 of the World Series.
For the Marlins and their fans, there isn’t exactly much to cheer about these days, but that doesn’t mean that fans can’t look back on what was a historic night.

Renteria’s World Series Moment
It was just the fifth season in existence for the Marlins.
And yet, with one swing of the bat from Renteria, the Marlins managed to claim their first ever World Series title in one of the greatest moments in postseason history.
It’s one of those moments that will live on in baseball history.
It was the first major accomplishment for an expansion franchise that had only been around for a few seasons.
No, it didn’t kick off a dynasty, but it was still a postseason to remember for fans in the Miami area.
The Marlins would of course win it all again in 2003 behind Josh Beckett and a young Miguel Cabrera.
But this hit by Renteria is one of the finest moments in World Series history and will forever be remembered as the moment when the Marlins could finally stand toe to toe with some of the best teams in the league, even if only for a few years.
