Mere hours before the MLB lockout, the Chicago Cubs made a splash, signing right-hander Marcus Stroman to a three-year deal.
Stroman was not the only free agent the Cubs had eyes on before the lockout, however.
As it turns out, Carlos Correa was on their wish list as well.
According to MLB Network insider Jon Morosi, the Cubs were one of many teams who had contacted Correa prior to the lockout.
Morosi notes that now that the lockout is over, the Cubs remain one of the favorites to try and bring in the star shortstop.
Stroman fully supports this and is doing his best to recruit Correa to the friendly confines.

Correa In Chicago?
The Cubs fell out of contention last year after trading away Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, and Kris Bryant at the trade deadline.
Signing Stroman is a big step for them to get back into contention.
Having Correa in Chicago would at least make them a dark horse contender in the NL Central, if not more.
Signing Stroman was already a good get for the Cubbies, but they need more in order to return to prominence and stand with the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central.
Correa would also bring a little excitement to the division.
Not that there wasn’t any, but it would be fun to see him in the same division as Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado, Christian Yelich, Joey Votto, and other stars.
As we know, Stroman has been very vocal about a number of things, including the lockout.
But with that over, he, like all baseball fans, is now turning his focus to free agency and setting his goals on recruiting top talent to join him in Chicago.
