Manny Machado and Nolan Arenado are widely considered to be the two best third basemen in all of baseball.
The two were in the Top 3 in voting for the National League MVP, an award that was ultimately won by Paul Goldschmidt.
Machado finished second, while Arenado finished one spot behind him.
On MLB’s list of the Top 100 players in all of baseball, the San Diego Padres star ranked fifth, one spot ahead of Arenado.
But the competition between the two third basemen is always neck and neck.
After the final results of the Top 100, Machado spoke to MLB Network about his relationship with the St. Louis Cardinals slugger and how the competition between the two of them makes them both better.

Machado first talked about how it felt to be so high on the list.
In fact, this is the highest the slugger has ever been on the Top 100 list.
He expressed that it was a great honor to be on the list and talked about how blessed he felt to be able to play the game.
Former MLB star Harold Reynolds then asked Machado about Arenado.
The slugger discussed his relationship with the Cardinals star and the constant battle between the two of them and what it means for the sport.
He says that he and Arenado push each other and do everything they can to bring out the absolute best in each other.
Machado then praised Arenado for his defensive work and expressed hope that his friend would ultimately break the record for the most Gold Gloves ever won by a third baseman.
