Los Angeles Lakers fans have surely had a lot of negative things to say to Russell Westbrook.

And while their frustration is understandable with the way the Lakers have played, Laker fans have taken it too far and have made threats to Westbrook and his family.

Nothing justifies the way Lakers fans have treated him.

It has even gotten to the point where Westbrook said he felt afraid to bring his family into the arena, because of what his kids might hear the fans say about their father.

Lakers legend Magic Johnson came to Westbrook’s defense on Twitter, stating that the threats made to him and his family are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

Laker Nation, it's our responsibility to come together and support Russell Westbrook and his family. Threats and attacks on the Westbrook family are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. There's no place in sports for this type of behavior, period. @russwest44

Magic Stands With Russ

It’s good to see a Lakers legend coming to Westbrook’s defense.

It’s no secret that Westbrook has not had a good season, but we can only hope that the fans will listen to the greatest player in franchise history and stop treating Westbrook with such disrespect and hatred.

When things such as this happen, it always puts things in perspective, and it reminds us of what kinds of people truly exist in our society.

This isn’t to lump all Lakers fans into one category and say that they all are treating Westbrook terribly, but there have been enough angry comments made towards him that it makes the fan base look very bad.

Johnson stepping up and saying something about it should hopefully help ease some of the anger towards Westbrook.

Even throughout his struggles, there is still no denying what kind of player Westbrook is and can still be.

Fans just need to take a step back and realize that threatening a player will not help him get better.
