While much is left to be desired from quarterback Mac Jones‘ game, he did help the New England Patriots clinch a playoff berth.
In his rookie season, the former Alabama standout completed 352 passes for 3,801 yards and 22 touchdowns.
However, he also threw 13 interceptions and averaged 7.3 yards per completion.
In their lone postseason game, Jones had 24 completions for 232 yards, two touchdowns, and two picks.
But with his best years in front of him, the team made Jones a captain.
Patriots name QB Mac Jones a captain, as you'd expect.

Head coach Bill Belichick hopes this responsibility will inspire Jones to improve his game constantly.
There’s no question about his work ethic after beating former league MVP Cam Newton for the starting role last season.
He also got assistance from his girlfriend, Sophie Scott, walking through the Patriots’ playbook.
It’s that level of dedication the Patriots will need from everyone to sustain their contender status.
As captain, Jones will be in the position to inspire teammates and call out those who are not picking up their weight.
Jones Will Be Tested Early In The Season
It’s time for Jones to prove that the success during his rookie season isn’t pure luck.
The Patriots would also like to avoid him hitting the wall in his second year.
Having a good record in the first four weeks of their schedule should help Jones gain more confidence.
After their season opener against a revamped Miami Dolphins, they will face the Pittsburgh Steelers with reigning Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt.
In Week 3, they will face Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
A week later, Jones will have a duel with Aaron Rodgers as the Patriots compete against the Green Bay Packers.
To make matters more difficult, three of these four games are on the road.
