The New England Patriots had a 1-2 record after Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season.
Since then, rookie quarterback Mac Jones helped them clinch a postseason berth after missing it in 2020.
This year, the Patriots are staring at an identical 1-2 mark after losing to the Baltimore Ravens.
However, their winning odds do not look good due to Mac Jones’ injury.
While his condition can limit the Patriots’ chances of reaching the playoffs, the quarterback and the team have contradicting approaches regarding the injury.
The Patriots and Mac Jones are at a disagreement about how to move forward.
Patriots want to get him back as soon as possible and he’s hesitant to their guidance and wants to proceed with caution. 2nd opinion.
Pats timeline is 4 weeks max, he’s comfortable waiting 6-8 if needed. https://t.co/XFeIm07q1t— James Stewart (@IAmJamesStewart) September 26, 2022
ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted, “Patriots’ QB Mac Jones has what doctors diagnosed as a severe high ankle sprain that would cause many to have surgery, per sources. He is likely to miss multiple games. Jones and the Patriots still are discussing his options and the best way to proceed.”
Meanwhile, 98.5 The Sports Hub’s James Stewart quoted Schefter and shared, “The Patriots and Mac Jones are at a disagreement about how to move forward. Patriots want to get him back as soon as possible, and he’s hesitant to their guidance and wants to proceed with caution. 2nd opinion. Pats timeline is 4 weeks max. He’s comfortable waiting for 6-8 if needed.”
The Patriots would like to win now by having Jones back as soon as possible.
On the other hand, Jones wouldn’t want to jeopardize his career by returning quickly.
Which Side Will Prevail?
The Patriots will go with either Brian Hoyer or Bailey Zappe, with Jones sidelined.
Having one of them pan out is the outcome New England wants.
That way, Jones can go by his timeline while the Patriots continue to collect victories.
However, he will have to compete for his job once he is cleared to play.
Otherwise, the Patriots will expedite Jones’ return if they end up struggling.
