Everyone knows that Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is one of the most special and talented players in the NBA right now.
With an average of 34.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.9 assists, Doncic is having his best season yet and is being talked about as a frontrunner for MVP.
There is just so much he can do on the floor, things that no other player can duplicate.
Luka Doncic has made twice as many Stepback 3s as anyone else this year
Stepback 3s 2022-23 Season
Total 3PM and (3P%)

2. D. Mitchell ……. 36 (48.7)
3. Kevin Huerter …. 31 (56.4!)
4. James Harden … 30 (40.0)
5. Stephen Curry … 28 (44.4) pic.twitter.com/XG5c9r4apm— Kirk Goldsberry (@kirkgoldsberry) January 4, 2023
When it comes to stepback three-pointers, Doncic is in a league of his own.
Kirk Goldsberry crunched the numbers and found that Doncic has made twice as many stepback threes as anyone else in the NBA this year.
He has put up 80 stepback threes, at 39%.
That is more than double the player in second place, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers with 36 at 48.7%.
They are followed by Kevin Huerter of the Sacramento Kings with 31 stepback threes on 56.4%, James Harden of the Philadelphia 76ers with 30 on 40%, and Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors with 28 on 44.4%.
Doncic has made this sort of shot again and again, often at the most clutch times, for his team.
It’s become a patented part of his style and it’s now one of the main things he’s known for.
It is certainly hard to summarize Doncic because he is capable of so much but his Eurostep and stepback threes are two of the things he does best.
More than anything, he is known for his fearless attitude.
He is willing to push into the paint or take a deep two or three and he always seems confident in all that he tries.
He believes in himself and, based on these numbers, everyone else should as well.
