The Dallas Mavericks are for real.
Or at least, they’re not the team you want to meet, with Luka Doncic going berserk as of late.
The Real Madrid star has been on a historic run over his past five games, scoring 50, 32, 60, 35, and 51 points.
Luka Doncic over his last 5 games:

35 PTS – 12 REB – 13 AST
60 PTS – 21 REB – 10 AST

Doncic has been so unstoppable that even San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich jokingly said that his team’s goal was to hold him to 50 points.
Needless to say, they failed, as Doncic had 51 and led his team to a one-point win over their state rivals.
“He’s just a beautiful basketball player,” Popovich said of the Slovenian. “He’s like the prototype for high basketball IQ and high skill level, all rolled into one guy. He’s very special, very special.”
Doncic continues to get better with time, and that’s a scary thought for the rest of the league.
It seems like it’s just a matter of time before he takes over as the undisputed best player in the world, not to mention a perennial MVP winner:
“It’s incredible,” Mavs teammate Christian Woods said of Doncic. “Since my seven years in the league, I’ve never seen anyone do what he’s able to do. He just has to keep it up; he’s on an incredible run, he’s playing like an MVP, clearly one of the best players in the league. [I’m] happy for him.”
Still, Doncic and the Mavs may need more help to go deep into the playoffs.
But what he’s doing is remarkable and may not be replicated for a very, very long time.
