The Dallas Mavericks found a true gem when they traded for Luka Doncic during the NBA Draft.
He’s put them on their shoulders since day one, carrying Dirk Nowitzki’s torch and instantly becoming one of the best players in the league.
However, as great as he is, he’s also drawn plenty of criticism for his constant antics and complaints after every play, getting on the referees’ faces after every no-call.
Doncic has been dubbed a whiner and a flopper by several fans online, but that has never bothered him in the slightest.
If anything, all the criticism has only fueled his fire even more, and the Detroit Pistons just found out about that the hard way during Monday night’s loss to the Mavs.
Doncic led his team to a 111-105 win with one of the most majestic performances of his career, scoring 53 points on 11/24 from the field, 14/18 from the free-throw line, and 5/11 from beyond the arc.
He added eight rebounds, five assists, and a couple of steals in 36 minutes and didn’t hesitate to send the league a message after the game:
“Chirp at me, I’ll chirp back. I ain’t scared,” Doncic said.
Apparently, one of the Pistons’ assistant coaches tried to get into Doncic’s head after he torched them for 24 points in the first quarter.
The coach poked the bear, which was the worst thing you could do to a superstar like Doncic.
Then again, it shouldn’t take a 53-point performance to beat one of the worst teams in the league by just six points at home.
So, the Mavericks better start making some moves and getting Doncic some help.
