The unfortunate reality of Luis Severino over the past several years has been the bad luck he’s had with injuries.
He currently is on a rehab assignment after a suffering a low-grade right lat strain.
But his rehab has looked pretty good so far.
He’s started 16 games for the New York Yankees this year, going 5-3 with a 3.45 ERA.
The only issue has been his health.
But down at Triple-A, he’s looking like his old self again.
He made a rehab start last night, and his velocity looks normal.
He hit 96 mph on a fastball when he picked up his final strikeout of the night.

Sevy Making Progress
This is a great sign for the Yankees.
After they traded away Jordan Montgomery, there was somewhat of a hole in their rotation.
But that could soon be filled if and when Severino returns.
The Yankees could certainly use him.
Despite his injury struggles, he still has a ton of upside.
If he can stay healthy, he could easily become one of the best pitchers in all of baseball and add a little extra depth to the Yankees rotation that they really need.
His best season came in 2017, when he went 14-6 with a 2.98 ERA in 31 starts.
A healthy Severino would be a huge boost for the Yankees and their rotation as the month of October approaches and the team sets its sights on the postseason.
When healthy, he’s been a solid option in their rotation, and he could prove to be a key piece for them in the playoffs.
Him hitting 96 on a fastball is a great sign for the Yankees.
We’ll see if the Yankees can find a way to get him back for the remainder of the stretch run.
