The Detroit Lions aren’t strangers when it comes to major trades.
Last season, they traded away longtime quarterback Matthew Stafford for a 2021 third-round pick, a 2022 first-rounder, a 2023 first-rounder, and Jared Goff.
Unfortunately, they got the short end of the bargain because Stafford won Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Lions did have some improvements under head coach Dan Campbell.
However, they still won three games in 2021 and went winless for almost a year.
That record gave them the second overall selection in the 2022 NFL Draft.
But as Pro Football Focus writer Ari Meirov shared, there’s a possibility that the Lions will be offering that spot to the highest bidder.
#Lions GM Brad Holmes said today that he’s had dialogue with a few teams about a potential trade involving the No. 2 overall pick. Holmes said it’s still relatively early, but things are likely to heat up as the draft nears.

As always, high draft picks are a gamble, especially if the player a team selected did not pan out.
Yet the 2022 draft is shaping up to be a perfect opportunity to draft an edge rusher because of the deep talent pool in that position.
Therefore, expect teams that lag in creating pressure to strike a conversation with the Lions.
Given that it’s a high draft pick, Detroit can ask for at least two picks or one pick and a starter in return.
Which Teams Might Trade Up With The Lions?
The Kansas City Chiefs are in dire need of another edge rusher, especially now that their secondary got weaker due to Tyrann Mathieu‘s departure.
The same goes for the Philadelphia Eagles who have three picks in the first round.
Likewise, don’t sleep on the New England Patriots because they always have something in store on draft day.
