Jared Goff has been even worse than advertised for the Detroit Lions in 2021.
Last Sunday’s tie in Pittsburgh was a truly horrific performance that saw Goff complete 14 passes for 114 yards.
He needed overtime just to reach 100 yards on the day.
Goff is getting paid a fortune, but the Lions have to start thinking about the future at some point.
That could start as soon as Sunday, with a new quarterback under center.
Goff is dealing with an oblique injury that has started the rumor mill about Lions head coach Dan Campbell going with a surprise option at quarterback.

Tim Boyle, who has been on injured reserve all year, is reportedly liked by the coaching staff and could get a shot to prove himself this week against the Cleveland Browns.
At this point the Lions really have nothing to lose with such a switch.
They Should Get Creative
What the Lions are doing on offense is just not working.
Making the switch to Boyle would not hurt as the game is already going to be tough against a Browns defense that should rebound after basically taking the week off against New England on Sunday.
Dan Campbell said Jared Goff is day to day, will not practice today. Tim Boyle will take first-team reps for the Lions at QB.

Boyle is a former backup in Green Bay and is a relative unknown at the NFL level.
But could he do any worse than Goff?
That is hard to imagine after seeing the former No. 1 overall pick struggle just to throw touchdown passes since the start of October.
Boyle could play and Goff could get some rest at a time when him playing doesn’t even matter.
Goff is not the future in Detroit, and Boyle likely isn’t either.
But at least a change could potentially inspire the offense.
